Central to my experience and goals is a mission of proximity. I have strived to work and serve this community through various platforms. Professionally, I served as the Development director for Madison-area Urban ministry (JustDane), as the Director of Development and Communications for Second Harvest Food bank, and additionally worked at United Way of Dane County. Within the community, I have founded the Muslim Youth of Madison, an organization that brings Muslim youth together and provide them the venue to carry out recreational, educational, spiritual and charitable activities. I have served on multiple community boards and leadership positions in non-profits that serve different communities in the Madison area. Serving on the City of Madison Common Council for District 7 is a privilege and with that privilege comes great responsibility. I will use my privilege to serve my constituency, community, and the City of Madison .
My goal is to focus on four main issues: Affordable housing, Employment, Public Safety, and Sustainability. These issues will be addressed through the following values: Partnership, Empathy, and Social Change. Developing strategic partnerships that build relationships of trust is key to addressing the concerns of our community. The human capacity for empathy will allow for the cultivation of authentic and meaningful discussions and collaborations. Lastly, a commitment to the issues of power and privilege within individuals and communities will help implement social change within institutions and systems. Help me make our district a model for the rest of the city of Madison.
